A review of Thomas The Baker by N. doherty written on Sunday 11th of October 2009
I was in Leyburn on Friday on our way north and went into Thomas the Baker. The front shop was nothing attractive that would entice you to go in to that baker in particular. I purchased a sandwich and some eccles cakes. We were on our way to Scotland and stopped for a quick lunch. The sandwich was OK, but the eccles cakes were something else. They were packed full of succulent currents with a creamy pastry, that tasted of butter and to finish it off the bottom had a sticky toffee like coating. The texture was suberb with a flavour to match. My wife has never really had any eccles cake before. I told her if you are going to have one try this one. She too thought they were fantastic, fresh and full of fruit and flavour.
You cannot get a better eccles cake anywhere. They are fit for a King.
