A review of Timpson by James Jameses written on Saturday 18th of January 2014
I recommend against shoe repairs from this Timpson. I took a pair of boots in to get new soles and eyelets, and despite having claimed that the repairs would take at most two weeks, they ended up taking more than a month.
I stopped by the shop on two occasions to see what the progress was, and they had ordered in the new soles and fitted them, but had yet to fit the new eyelets. I asked if I would be able to pay a reduced price (since it had taken so long), and was assured by the staff member that I talked to that they would work something out once the repairs were complete.
Finally I got tired of waiting for them to do the work and went to collect the unfinished boots. The man who served me this time initially refused to give me any sort of discount, saying that they had finished the work. I mentioned that I had been offered a discount the last time I was in the shop, and he eventually knocked the price down from £35 to £30, which (for such a hassle) I think is unsatisfactory.
Finally, I took the boots to the cobbler on Shambles, who it turns out would have done the job for £21, and who correctly pointed out that Timpson had only finished attaching ONE of the soles, and that they had not replaced any eyelets. I strongly recommend using a different shoe repair service; there are other such shops in the town centre (for instance the one on Shambles). .
